When
Margaret Pritchard (1870) moved with her young family to Low Fell it must have been like returning home. She was born there, went to school there and her mother had a house there.
Whilst the family were living there Robert arrived back from his travels in Canada and the USA and the couple added two more boys, Daniel (1905) and Edward (1907) to the family.

Low
Fell was hardly even a hamlet before the 19th Century. Gateshead Fell
was still an open moor and was inhabited mainly by tinkers and gypsies. It was
the opening of a new road between Newcastle and
Durham in 1827 which really increased the population. The land close
to the road became a desirable place to live and quite soon large mansions, shops and public houses were being built. Even though Low Fell became a part of Gateshead in 1835 when the Municipal Reform Act
became law, the inhabitants always thought of themselves as villagers living outside the town.
In
1908 Robert and Margaret with their bairns moved across the fell to the village of Eighton Banks where they were to remain for the rest of their lives.
